Visible Denim Mending Workshop

In this workshop you will learn to mend, patch, and add character to denim or heavy weight fabrics with visible mending. You will use basic running stitches, heavy thread, and patches to design and start your own denim mending project. The techniques we will teach are influenced and inspired by boro stitching and sashiko embroidery, but this is not a course in the traditional techniques. The techniques covered will be freehand stitching, but we will provide rulers and some stitch templates if you prefer more even patterns.

Class time: 2 hours

Materials: These are provided. Option to keep tools at the end of the class for additional $10 ( needle, thimble, and floss)

Format: About 20-30 minutes discussion/example sharing/active demos. Remainder of time will be spent hands on, exploring techniques and starting your project on your own garment or fabric. Instructors will walk around and help you get started and demonstrate techniques you need as you go. We will provide additional materials and tools and will have some for purchase. 

Experience: Beginner. No prior experience is necessary.
