Workshop Description:
Holes in your sweaters? No sweat. In this hands-on workshop, you'll learn how to repair holes in sweaters and other knitwear using Swiss darning with a thread scaffolding technique.
Swiss darning, also known as duplicate stitch, is a technique that mimics the structure of knitted stitches to create a repair that blends into the original fabric. By first creating a temporary thread scaffold across the hole, you'll learn how to reconstruct missing stitches, restoring both the structure and appearance of your knitwear.
We'll cover how to assess a hole, build a thread scaffold, select appropriate repair yarn, and recreate knitted stitches over the damaged area. You'll practice the technique on sample fabric before applying your new skills to your own knitwear.
Course Time: 2 hours
Cost: $50
Format: You'll learn through demonstrations and hands-on practice. Sweater swatches, scrap yarn, thread, and darning needles will be provided.
You will leave with a practice sample or a partially completed repair project, along with the skills and confidence to finish repairing holes in your favorite knitwear.
Experience: Intermediate. No prior darning experience needed, but familiarity with knitting is helpful. Patience required.
All materials will be provided.
