Description: Do you wish you could hem your own pants to the perfect length? Or crop a shirt or skirt? This class is for you! You will learn how to sew three types of hems on woven fabric (not stretchy), mark where you want your hem to end, and prep the different types.

Hem Types:

  1. Rolled hem (by machine)

  2. Blind Hem (by hand)

  3. Original Denim Hem (by machine)

Format: You'll learn through hands-on experience from Nice Repair owners Lindsey & Danielle. We will practice on stable fabrics like shirting and denim and will talk through how to apply techniques to more advanced fabrics like silky or thin materials.

You will leave with a sample of each type of hem and an understanding of how to mark and prep a hem to use these techniques for your own projects.

Time: 2 hours

Cost: $60 (includes materials)

Experience: Advanced beginner. You should have done some basic hand sewing and have used a sewing machine at least a few times.

What to bring: A woven (non-stretch) garment to hem. This should be a smaller hem, like pants, a narrow skirt, or a button-down top to crop.

Provided by Nice Repair:

  • Sample fabric of different weights for practice

  • Sewing machines

  • Tools
